Building a new rig, would like your opinions

Here's what I'd like to build:
Gigabyte GA-MA790XT-UD4P mother board
AMD Phenom II X4 965 125 Watt CPU
HIS Radeon HD 5770 1gb video card
G.Skill 4gb DDR3 1600 PC3 12800 RAM
1 500gb WD black edition HDD
Windows 7 Professional
Corsair HX850W PSU
Antec 900 case.
What do you guys think?

Re: Building a new rig, would like your opinions

I've just built almost the same rig although I got a 5870 and a Corsair Obsidian 900D and a Corsair H50 for the CPU.

My advice, stay away from the 900. Looks good on paper until you start installing everything. HDD installation is horrible, no cable management, and when you install the HDDs, the back of the HDDs will almost cover the SATA ports making it quite tricky and very annoying.

the Tri-cool fans are certainly not the quietest. They're ok on low, but if you want a quiet rig when not gaming and want to turn the fans up when you're gaming it means pulling the case out, opening it up, finding all the tri-cool switches and turning the fans up. very annoying after the second time which means keeping them on low and dealing with higher temps or leaving them on med/high and living next to a wind tunnel.

The 902 is marginally better although recommending another case would depend on your budget.

What are you going to use it for?

Looks good, PSU is a little overkill, but that is up to you, 650 would suffice.

I have an Antec 300 and I like it.

There have been a few RAM roundups that suggest there is little performance gain over 1333MHz and more to gain in CAS timings. Then again you could get the 1600 and drop it down and lower the CAS.

I'd go Intel i3 or i5 for a cooler running, inexpensive performing cpu. And the mobos for them are pretty inexpensive.

I hope this will last me a few years, hopefully longer than my current rig.

As far as case goes I am using this one and love it. Plenty of room good cable management and ease of harddrive install.
